Georgia 5-Star QB Jared Curtis FLIPS to Vanderbilt | What It Means for Bulldogs & Commodores (2025)

Georgia's quarterback recruitment took an unexpected turn, leaving many fans heartbroken. The highly touted 5-star quarterback, Jared Curtis, has once again chosen to go against the Bulldogs' wishes.

In a shocking development, Curtis, who had committed to Georgia twice during his recruitment process, has now flipped his decision for the second time. This time, he has officially joined the Vanderbilt Commodores, leaving Georgia at the altar, so to speak. It's a scenario that has played out twice now, and it's leaving Georgia fans wondering what went wrong.

But here's where it gets controversial: Curtis cites his relationships with coaches as the primary reason for his decision. He mentions having a great connection with coaches from both schools, but Georgia's advantage of familiarity didn't seem to be enough. In an interview with Dawgs247, Curtis explained, "The biggest reason is the relationship with coaches. Both schools are fantastic, but going to Georgia so often gave them an edge. I knew their coaches, and that made a difference."

Curtis has been on Georgia's radar for quite some time, and the staff considered him a key target. He originally committed to the Bulldogs in the spring of 2024, choosing them over several top programs. However, he later decommitted and the race was on once again. In May, Curtis committed to Georgia over Oregon and other contenders, but this time, Vanderbilt entered the picture.

At 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds, Curtis possesses a rare combination of size and talent at the quarterback position. He is ranked as the nation's No. 3 overall player, and Georgia saw him as their top choice from the beginning.

Then, something shifted. Vanderbilt's program, led by transfer quarterback Diego Pavia, started to gain national attention. It seemed that Curtis' initial admiration for Georgia's offensive coordinator, Mike Bobo, took a backseat. When asked about his original choice, Curtis said, "Talking to Coach Bobo was a big factor. I built a strong relationship with him and the other coaches. But getting to know him better, and him visiting us, made a lasting impression."

With Curtis' decommitment, Georgia's team rankings on 247Sports have taken a hit, dropping out of the top-5 for the first time this cycle. This would mark the first time Georgia has finished outside of the top-5 during Kirby Smart's tenure, which adds to the disappointment.

So, what do you think? Is this a case of a player following his heart, or did Georgia miss out on a key opportunity? Feel free to share your thoughts and opinions in the comments below! We'd love to hear your take on this recruiting saga.
